OMG

Well I have a number. I have tallied up all of our standing debt and including our home, car and student loans and the number is big. I don't think I am ready to put it out there yet. It hurts a little to look at in print but that is what I need to really scare myself into buckling down and pinching my budget where ever I can to make this number go away. Of course, my priority is to get rid of the high interest credit card debt first and that number is significantly smaller than the balance so there's a little comfort...

Must go save tiny girl number three from the clutches of blue cotton yarn she has become entangled with.

4

Well, it's been months since I started this and in those 10 months we have added number four to our collection of tiny girls. She is nearly six weeks old and as beautiful as her sisters. Obviously I have been busy and decided that blogging needed to take a backseat (very far back) to mommying and knitting among other things. Also in these months my babies have turned into an almost first grader, an almost kindergartener and a very busy fourteen month old. Excuse me while I wipe away the tears...

There are a few reasons why I have decided to continue what I started here.

First of all, I have a new interest in sewing and refashioning old items. I wanted somewhere I could document my projects, knitting included. I love the excitement and satisfaction of creating something new and seeing a finished product getting some use. My kids are loving the benefits as well.

The second reason is that in the past nearly nine years of marriage, my hubby and I have accumulated quite a bit of debt. As you can imagine, four children are quite a drain on our finances and large monthly loan and credit card payments are eating up much of our budget. I hope to use this blog as a motivational tool to begin a slow climb out of this. I plan on using the percentage bars in the sidebar to track our debt and how much we still owe. This will take some work so I hope to have the details posted sometime this week.

There will be more to come...maybe something fun to look at...soon.

Blogging 101

So, having never blogged before, I chose to just dive in and post. Besides, where do you begin writing about a life that's already 32 years in. Do I start with my marriage, children? Do I go back 5 years, 10 years, 28? Do I focus on my family, my yarn addiction, my frustrations or quirks? I guess that's not what this is about for me. I've always been a writer of sorts and though I may be a bit rusty with the grammar and punctuation and a teensy bit wordy (okay, a lot wordy), I just need to get it all down.

I think after years of (happily) making life about everyone else, I choose now to make it about me again, even if it's only a few minutes each day. So...I think I'll just write what comes to mind and post what ever I'm not too horrified to publicly broadcast.

Since this is my first official post, here is a little background. I am Sadie sometimes. I think I will be Sadie here, just to clarify. I have been married for almost 8 years and someday I will tell the story of my very long and very short courtship. I am the mama of three tiny and not so tiny girlies, five, four, and the actually tiny 5 monther. They are each adorable and terrifyingly perfect, except for all the times when I say they are not. I still want more.

I love knitting, too much. I used to love to read. I have stopped so my hands and eyes are free for knitting. I devour new patterns and occasionally ignore very important things so I can knit. Lastly, for today, I am a little bit crazy. I don't mean the two different socks at once or sometimes sleep on the wrong side of the bed kind of crazy. I mean the medicated, slightly ocd, often depressed, generally frustrating to all those within earshot crazy. I'm getting better. Sometimes I do sleep on the wrong side of the bed.
A rare free moment with less than three children is allowing me to explore my big person brain. Actually, these free moments are more frequent now that school has started but breastfeeding and constantly entertaining small person number three are the activities of choice...as in choose one or the other.

Small person number three is now sleeping next to me and in theory she should be in her crib tucked soundly away while I catch up around the house. A weekend of roofing at my sister's house has put a stop to all domestic activities here on the homefront...damn...as soon as I put the words out there, she has opened her little sleepy eyes and smiled at me....time for a mid-morning snack and my big person brain goes to sleep until later.
